Show Overview

This performance is part of Light Night Leeds 2019.

Strange Stranger is a performance and interactive installation that investigates the right to be forgotten in the digital age.

Drawing upon the notion of a 'data shadow’, the traces of information we leave behind when interacting with technology, Strange Stranger explores the paradox of how the more information we have access to, the stranger and more incomprehensible the world seems.

Within a grid of three-metre high towers, structures appear, transform and vanish into the shadows as light dazzlingly animates this live interactive space.

Each performance is 20 minutes long. In between performances the installation will be ongoing.

Age suitability: 5+ years. Those aged 11 years and under must be supervised by an adult.
Please note: The performances contain loud music and flashing lights.

Commissioned by Sadler’s Wells and York Mediale, Strange Stranger is performed by four dancers to an original composition by Beatrice Dillon. Choreographer Alexander Whitley also collaborated with installation artists Children of the Light, Italian creative technologists Luca Biada and Michele Panegrossi of Studio FENYCE.
